Take-Two Hints GTA 6 Could Release in 2024; Projecting $8 billion in revenue
Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, may have revealed the release schedule for GTA 6, the highly anticipated next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise. The game may be released as early as next year.
This revelation comes hot on the heels of Take-Two’s annual earnings report press release. In the report, the company has predicted its earnings for the coming fiscal year 2025 (April 2024).
As noted by IGN, Take-Two’s press release states that the company is ushering in “a new era by launching several ground-breaking titles that we believe will set new standards for our industry,” which would help the company “achieve more than $8 billion in net bookings and more than $1 billion in adjusted unrestricted cash flow.”
As it may have brought in $5.3 billion in the previous fiscal year, hitting the $8 billion mark seems to be heavily dependent on the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Therefore, analysts speculate that Take-Two’s prediction may be due to its reliance on the anticipated GTA 6, which the publisher has already announced.
After its release, GTA V brought in a staggering $1 billion in revenue in just 24 hours and has since sold over 180 million copies, cementing its position as the most successful video game in history.
Also, GTA Online, its online counterpart, is still a cash cow for the publisher. In addition, Rockstar has released the game for next-gen (current-gen) consoles, including the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
While GTA 6’s release next year is still uncertain, it’s worth noting that significant gameplay details about the title were leaked last year, confirming its setting as Vice City (a fictional video game version of Miami) and featuring two playable protagonists, both male and female. At the time, Rockstar dismissed the leak as an “emotional” matter for the studio and assured fans that the development process was not affected by the incident.
